HIV and AIDS remain a significant, persistent, world-wide problem. And the state of Florida the third-highest number of people living with HIV in the United States. Because of the fast-paced change in HIV knowledge, rehabilitation professionals may not be aware of new advances, current treatments, and interventions. Recent changes in terminology and staging are covered. Legal and ethical issues, including recent changes in testing, confidentiality, and reporting requirements are discussed.

  • Discuss the incidence and prevalence of HIV infection, including high risk groups 
  • Identify infections common to HIV/AIDS. 
  • Explain strategies to prevent HIV infection in healthcare workers and in the general public. 
  • Identify treatment options for HIV infection. 
  • Discuss the role of occupational therapy, including evaluative and treatment approaches with this population
