This course is intended to instruct the professional through a self-paced study on the AOTA Code of Ethics and Ethics Standards, Tennessee Code Annotated, Chapter 1150-2 of the Tennessee General Rules Governing the Practice of Occupational Therapy, and basic theories and approaches in ethical decision making.

Professional Objectives:

At the end of this course the professional will be able to:

  1. Define ethics and the components of the ethical standards and behavior
  2. Identify the ten medical principals of ethics
  3. List AOTA's 6 principals and their corresponding core values
  4. Cite the 7 Core Values of Occupational Therapy Practice
  5. State the components of The Realm-Individual Process-Situation (RIPS) model of ethical decision making
  6. Identify the types of documentation fraud in healthcare
  7. List the Tennessee rules for OT supervision, regarding the determined frequency and type of supervision for occupational therapy assistants and students
  8. Describe the approved  activities allowed by the TN OT Board for continuing competence hours and credits
  9. Cite the list of actions that may be imposed when the Tennessee Board of Occupational Therapy determines that an OT or OTA has violated a provision of rules
