Description:

This one-hour course will provide clinicians with an overview of how and why COVID-19 has had such a significant impact on older adults. It will examine the expected clinical presentation in older adult COVID-19 patients in the post-acute phase as well as discuss assessment and treatment interventions. This course will also examine the impact that social isolation has on older adults and how rehabilitation clinicians can make a positive impact on this.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will gain knowledge of how COVID-19 impacts older adults including clinical presentation, treatment recommendations, and impact of social distancing guidelines.

  1. Identify why older adults have an increased risk of contracting COVID-19
  2. Recognize the expected acute and post-acute presentation of an older adult who has been hospitalized with COVID-19.
  3. Select appropriate treatment interventions and exercise prescription for older adults in the post-acute phase of COVID-19.
  4. Identify 2 negative side effects of social isolation for older adults
