Description:

The purpose of this 6 -hour course is to teach Parents effective and practical methods of discipline to use in their home with their children.  Clinicians will learn skills to use with their own clients as well as information on how to counsel parents and teach them the skills as well. The importance of positive communication patterns will be discussed. Parents will be given hands-on instruction on how to develop a good and nurturing relationship with their children.

This course is intended to instruct the professional on advising parents on how to effectively communicate with their children.

Professional Objectives:

  1. Identify six skills for responding empathically to children’s negative feelings
  2. List 3 effective tools to handle temper tantrums
  3. Identify 6 ways to help clients set up their homes for efficiency
  4. List ten techniques that help engage children’s cooperation
  5. List six skills adults can use to avoid punishment and deliver discipline effectively
  6. Recognize how to use praise appropriately to motivate and improve children’s self-image
