Description:

Clinical staff who work in the Long-Term Care (LTC) setting are often required to teach in-services on a variety of topics to assure compliance needs are met as well as assure the clinical competencies are achieved for all nursing home staff. Beyond LTC, staff training tools are needed in healthcare settings such as Assisted Living Facilities, Home Health companies, and other clinical settings.

With such training needs in mind, this course provides instruction and key points to train the trainer for nine in-services to include handouts and post-tests for each.  In-service topics include:

This course is intended to instruct the professional to utilize the training methods and in-service materials to achieve the required compliance and skills of employees. 

Professional Objectives:

  1. Recognize optimal teaching techniques for the staff's highest retention of information.
  2. Identify the physical and non-physical factors that should be monitored for a resident's change of condition.
  3. Identify effective back injury prevention strategies and related safe steps for transfers.
  4. Recognize the components and examples of person-centered care.
  5. Identify internal and external risk factors, which may require interventions to prevent residents' falls.
  6. Select effective communication and interaction techniques for assisting the resident with dementia.
  7. Select techniques for residents who have dysphagia, to promote safety and to improve nutritional intake.
