Hour 1

  • Discussion of anatomical position and body region as it relates to the evaluation and treatment of a patient.
  • Learn basic anatomical terminology
  • Functions of the skin
  • Structure of dermise and epidermis
  • Wound healing description 
  • Connective tissue review

Hour 2

  • Understand functions of bone as well as classifications
  • General structure and gross anatomy of long bones
  • Discussion of histology of cells in bone
  • Blood and nerve supply of bones
  • Classification of fractures
  • Function of skeletal system and differentiation of axial and appendicular systems

Hour 3

  • Discuss the properties of muscle, skeletal tissue, microscopic anatomy, contraction of muscle fibers, mechanism of sliding, and types of muscular fibers.
  • Review levers
  • Go over cardiac muscle tissue, and smooth muscle.
  • Thorough overview of the muscles of the body
  • Thorough overview of surface anatomy

Hour 4

  • Review the PNS and CNS
  • Go over nervous tissue, myelination of the axons, axon regeneration, synapsis, nerves

Hour 5 

  • Thorough overview of the brain structures and functions and cranial nerves
  • Anatomy of the spinal cord including white and gray matter and spinal nerves reflexes and higher-order processing

Hour 6

  • Overview of components of blood and functions, formed elements of the blood, blood types 
  • Anatomy of the heart, including innervation of the heart
  • Blood pressure and systemic circulation
  • Discuss the functions of the lymphatic system
  • Go over the lymphatic cells, lymph and lymph vessels, and aging of the lymphatic system.

A thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology gives healthcare professionals the skills and knowledge needed to improve the quality of life of their patient by facilitating a systemic view of a patient’s condition.

There are times when health professionals treat and address a patient’s needs only in the health arena they are used to. However, receiving a through systemic review of anatomy and physiology of the body allows the practitioner to address specific patient needs, discover secondary problems inhibiting progress, and assist in improved inter clinician and physician communication.

Course Goals:

This course is intended to instruct the professional on a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology gives healthcare professionals the skills and knowledge needed to improve the quality of life of their patient by facilitating a systemic view of a patients condition.

Professional Objectives:

  1. Identify 2 introductory topics of anatomy and physiology including definitions, basic anatomical terminology, types of anatomy, regions and quadrants of the body, basic cellular organization, and overview of tissue. 
  2. List 3 functions and structure of the skin, wound healing, and aging of the integument.
  3. Recognize 2 functions of the of the skeletal system, components of the axial and appendicular skeleton, histology of bone tissue, blood and nerve supply of bone, categorization of fractures, articulations, and disease and aging of the joints. 
  4. Identify 2 functions of the muscular system and understand the properties of muscle, functions, skeletal muscle tissue, microscopic anatomy, types of muscle fibers, levers and joint mechanics, types of muscle tissue, muscles of the body and surface anatomy.
  5. List 3 functions of the nervous system including nervous tissue, delve into the peripheral and central nervous systems, structure and functional classification, cytology of the nervous system, cranial nerves, support and protection of the brain, cerebral spinal fluid, parts of the brain, higher order processing, autonomic and somatic systems. 
  6. Recognize 2 functions of the cardiovascular system which include the circulatory system, formed elements, anatomy of the heart, pulmonary and systemic circuits, innervation of the heart, systemic and pulmonary circulation, and aging of the cardiovascular system.
  7. Identify 2 functions of lymphatic system including the functions, anatomical structures, cells, organs and aging.
