  • Functional impacts of insufficient sleep
  • Review of the cyclical patterns and different stages of sleep and how these cycles change as a child develops
  • How the homeostatic process and circadian rhythm interact to create sleep pressure and regulate sleep
  • Review of how sleep evolves as a function of age and development.

Hour 2

  • Provide current recommendations for hours of sleep needed for infants and toddlers
  • Summary of evidence-based screening tools available to identify pediatric sleep disorders 
  • Clinical interview questions to capture sleep history and child medical history to identify sleep problems.
  • Common medical and neurodevelopmental conditions that impact sleep.

Hour 3

  • Overview of common pediatric sleep behaviors and sleep disorders.
  • Impacts of environmental and socioeconomic factors on childhood sleep.
  • AAP Safe Sleep recommendations.
  • Overview of evidence-based behavioral interventions for sleep problems. 

Hour 4

  • Pediatric population, procedures, strengths and drawbacks for behavioral interventions evidence-based behavioral interventions for sleep problems.
  • Overview of pharmacological interventions prescribed by physicians for sleep disorders.
