The realm of pediatric occupational therapy can be daunting. How do we help these children improve foundational components to success to they can progress? These are a few questions I have asked mysself, and I have found that if we understand pediatric visual perception as a base, then we can really help those we serve. We can know how to help a student who cannot remember his ABC's, is it visual memory, or is it visualization? This course can help!

This pediatric visual perception course will address the anatomy and physiology of the eye as well as typical developmental milestones for visual perception. The course then elaborates on common visual perceptual diagnoses and problems seen in young people. In depth evaluation and intervention is covered as far as standardized tests, screenings, and interventions based on the underlying issue the student is facing.

This course is intended to instruct the professional on gaining knowledge of evaluation and treatment for children with visual perceptual difficulties.

Professional Objectives:

  1. Identify Visual Perception
  2. List the anatomy of the visual system including the eye, visual receptive functions and visual cognitive functions
  3. Recognize the developmental sequence of visual perception including the visual-receptive and visual-cognitive functions
  4. Identify typical development of visual perceptual skills
