Upon the completion of this course, the learner will be able to: 

  • Explain the epidemiology of muscular and myofascial trigger points 
  • Name common syndromes associated with presence of trigger points  
  • Define referred pain 
  • Define adhesions and their effect on motor function   
  • Identify the three layers of muscular fascia and implications for movement restriction  
  • Explain the elements of sliding filament theory and their roles in trigger formation  
  • Distinguish between trigger points and acupressure points  
  • List the benefits of muscle release techniques.  
  • Distinguish self-myofascial release from myofascial release administered by a therapist.  
  • Differentiate active from passive tissue release
