The course will also address how to determine if a child is ready for a power wheelchair even before a formal mobility evaluation occurs. If a child is not yet ready, strategies to develop that readiness are presented. By recognizing the importance of power mobility for young children and developing readiness skills, we can successfully provide independence to our youngest clients.

Upon completing this course, the learner will be able to:

  • The participant will be able to select which pediatric clients would most likely benefit from power mobility.  
  • The participant will be able to interpret current research on the developmental impact of pediatric power mobility provision. 
  • The participant will be able to evaluate a pediatric client’s readiness for a power mobility device.  
  • The participant will be able to apply therapeutic interventions to develop power mobility readiness skills.
