The course will provide an understanding of the many different areas that impact feeding performance and help therapists to design a comprehensive assessment tool so that they are able to make appropriate referrals, collaborate with other professionals, determine and treat root causes of dysfunction, and design a treatment plan that accomplishes the patient’s goals.

This intermediate level course is designed to provide feeding therapists with a comprehensive approach to assessment. The course will provide an understanding of the many different areas that impact feeding performance and help therapists to design a comprehensive assessment tool so that they are able to make appropriate referrals, collaborate with other professionals, determine and treat root causes of dysfunction, and design a treatment plan that accomplishes the patient’s goals.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon the completion of this course, the learner will be able to: 

  • Recognize basic anatomy of the orofacial complex​ 
  • Recognize basic physiology of the orofacial complex​.
  • Articulate how gut health and nutrition impact picky eating in pediatrics​ 
  • Correlate structural components of the orofacial complex and their impact on eating behaviors​
  • Develop an initial evaluation form that addresses all areas of medical and feeding history, structure, and function to complete a comprehensive assessment to determine cause of dysfunction
