This course will present spinal/core connections with exercises focusing on increasing mobility, improving stability, strength, and motor control. By integrating an aquatic and land-based approach to spinal/core therapy clinicians can help clients progress quicker and more comfortably with improved outcomes.  

Orthopedic diagnoses are the primary concentration for this course but the exercises can be also be applied to a wide range of clients.

This course is intended to instruct the professional on how aquatic therapy and training can be integrated into current land-based treatment philosophies to help improve client progress and outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

Upon the completion of this course, the learner will be able to: 

  • Predict why aquatic training integrated with land based training can help accelerate patient progress and improve outcomes 
  • Classify the properties of water and fluid dynamics as they relate to the human body 
  • Organize the precautions and contraindications of aquatic therapy   
  • Analyze the difference between a static versus a dynamic pool    
  • Categorize 3 different types of assistive and resistive equipment   
  • Link the six fundamental benefits of training for spinal and core dysfunction with aquatic interventions to enhance patient functional and occupational performance.   
  • Analyze the philosophy of spinal/core Aquatic Training 
  • Predict common substitution patterns with spinal/core deep & shallow water exercises   
  • Apply 2 verbal cues to give clients for spinal/core deep & shallow water exercises   
  • Arrange common integrated spinal protocols to improve patient functional mobility and participation in daily activities.
