Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Distinguish more extensive knowledge of the anatomy and neuropathways of the peripheral and central vestibular systems. 
  • Analyze how the vestibular system works in conjunction with the somatosensory and visual systems and concurrent postural reactions. 
  • Analyze how to determine vestibular abnormalities in patients with functional and occupational limitations across multiple systems and diagnoses. 
  • Differentiate common diagnoses when the vestibular system is compromised. 
  • Assess functional and occupational limitations due to vestibular impairments in order to develop an appropriate plan of care. 
  • Predict presence of BPPV and establish appropriate treatment interventions. 
  • Assess vestibular retraining in conjunction with other functional impairments and determine how to progress these interventions.
