Description:

This course presents the importance of early mobility in child development, specifically the use of power wheelchairs with very young children. Research supports improvements in key areas of development with the onset of self-initiated mobility. Strategies to determine readiness for power mobility are presented. Finally, if a child is not yet ready, interventions to develop readiness are addressed.

Research supports improvements in key areas of development with the onset of self-initiated mobility. Strategies to determine readiness for power mobility are presented. Finally, if a child is not yet ready, interventions to develop readiness are addressed.

That clinicians would be aware of the developmental impact of early mobility provision and the evidence that supports it, will recognize young children in their practice who could benefit and refer to area experts for evaluation. 

Professional Objectives:

  1. Identify developmental benefits supported by research of early self-initiated mobility.

  3. Recognize 3 mobility concepts needed to use a power wheelchair.
