Course Overview

This course will explore an evidence-based approach to evaluating and treating patients who have pain with no apparent mechanism of injury. We will discuss the role of basic anatomic and physiological function in peripheral systemic dysfunction, specific evaluative techniques, and intervention strategies that can drive efficient resolution of this dysfunction.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Recognize limitations of some traditional measurements.
  • Identify how to apply principles of physiology to the assessment of musculoskeletal issues.
  • Identify basic principles of posture and movement. 
  • Recognize the importance of external respiration and the need to assess respiratory mechanics.  
  • Identify normal asymmetry of the human body.  
  • Identify the arthrokinematics associated with external respiration.  
  • Recognize typical peripheral compensatory mechanisms.  
  • Identify tests and normal and abnormal testing results.  
  • Identify treatment strategies to normalize movement measures that enhance clients' ability to engage in meaningful occupations including self-care, work, and leisure activities.
