Iowa Occupational Therapist & Assistants: Understanding Your Continuing Education Home Study Limits

Iowa Occupational Therapists must complete 30 hours of CEUs in the 2 years preceding their renewal deadline, while Occupational Therapist Assistants must complete 15 hours of continuing education in the same time frame. Renewal deadlines are set as the 15th of the therapist's birth month, two years from the previous renewal deadline. Easy enough, but Iowa Occupational Therapist and Iowa Occupational Therapist Assistants also have a home study limit, which states that no more than 1/2 of the therapists continuing education hours may be taken via home study courses; 15 hours maximum for OTs and 7 1/2 maximum for OTAs. Which means that the other half of your continuing education must come from qualifying live events.
