Winnie Yang, MA, CCC-SLP

Winnie Yang received her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology with a minor in Business Administration from Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas. She went onto the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign to receive her Masters of Art degree in Speech Pathology. Winnie is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and ASHA's Special Interest Group Division 13: Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. She is currently practicing at JPS Health Network, a Level 1 Trauma Center and Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, in Fort Worth, Texas providing dysphagia, cognitive, alaryngeal speech, voice, and speech and language evaluation and treatment to the adult population. During her tenure at JPS, she has supervised numerous ASHA Clinical Fellows and provided clinical supervision to graduate students who are completing their acute care externship. In addition to supervision and mentorship, Winnie provides in-services to Family Practice residents and Oral Surgery interns about dysphagia and tracheostomies. At JPS, she was instrumental in forming a multidisciplinary Tracheostomy Team to improve patient care and to improve staff education regarding tracheostomy tubes. She has a passion for educating people from various disciplines to improve patient outcomes.

Description:

Over the last decade, the number of patients admitted to post-acute care with tracheostomies has increased. This course is designed to provide the SLP with an overview of the components of a tracheostomy, a review of tracheostomy care, and to increase the SLP’s competency of evaluation and treatment methods for patients with tracheostomies.
