Ms. Torres is a naturalized citizen from Colombia, South America, who, after working many years as a respiratory therapist, came to the United States to seek a professional nursing degree. She completed her BSN and Master in Nursing degrees from the University of South Alabama. She is currently the simulation director at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing and is pursuing nursing doctoral studies at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Her career focus has been in global health nursing. In addition to her life experiences in Colombia, she has taken students to Peru for clinical field experiences and has attended multiple global health conferences.

This course will focus on awareness of human trafficking for massage therapists and provide information on how to identify possible trafficking victims, steps to report cases, and information about resources available to assist victims. The course will also, review techniques traffickers use to force, defraud, and coerce individuals into slavery, and to keep victims captive, and the traumatic effects of trafficking.
