Bradley W. Stockert

Bradley W. Stockert, PT, PhD, is a professor of physical therapy at California State University, Sacramento, where he received the Teacher of the Year Award in 2006. He obtained his master’s degree in physical therapy from Stanford University and his doctoral degree in physiology from the University of California, Davis. Dr. Stockert has been teaching in physical therapist professional education programs for 30 years. During that time he also taught in professional pharmacy and nursing programs. He currently teaches courses in the areas of pathology, differential diagnosis, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and acute care physical therapy. Dr. Stockert has given numerous presentations on pathology and screening for medical conditions, adverse drug reactions, and cancer at state, national, and international conferences. Dr. Stockert is actively involved in incorporating the use of programmable patient simulators to train students for practice in acute care settings as well as how to recognize and respond to medical emergencies.

The course begins by defining the term differential diagnosis as identifying a cluster of signs and symptoms that requires therapists to determine whether the best intervention is within their scope of practice or if the situation warrants communication with the patient’s physician or other healthcare team member.
