Six Word Autobiography for 2011

In January 2009, I was introduced to a truly extraordinary concept, the 6-word autobiography. Ms. Coffelt, my advanced expository writing professor, presented us with an assignment: sum up your life in 6 words. At first blush, I considered this an extraneous assignment to fill space on the syllabus; that was until she read examples. As I listened to her voice recite memoir after memoir, I became overtaken by the weight of her words. In six words, various people revealed their most intimate moments. Some were funny, others heartbreaking, but all were genuine and relevant. With this in mind, I created my first 6-word memoir. Since then, at the start of every year, I draft a new 6-word autobiography to outline where I've been, where I'm going, and where I hope to end up.

Working at HomeCEU has played an important role in my life. This is where my true journey of adulthood began, and in a short while, this company has taught me things I could never imagine learning. To show my appreciation, this year I drafted a 6-word autobiography to capture the essence of how HomeCEU has changed me.

Entered with limits, learned no boundaries.

I began working for HomeCEU just 2 weeks after graduating from college. Like most graduates, I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I knew that I would do my best. Armed with my diploma (ink still dripping), I showed up at the HCEU offices ready to take on the world. Then, reality set in. Let's just say I finally understood what it meant to 'sink or swim'. The bar was set high and just when I thought my chin passed the edge, there was the next wave. I was so focused on drowning, that I hardly noticed how well I was swimming! I was letting my uncertainty distract from my successes, blinded by self-imposed limits.

That is when I embraced the HomeCEU mindset. At HomeCEU we constantly push for greatness. We walk into every situation with a can do it” mentality and without fail, we grab our bootstraps and trudge the trenches until we succeed. We do not dwell on the impossibilities because we know anything is possible. The only thing that can hold us back is our own imagination. Just a few months back Brandon set this mindset into action by giving us the challenge of Core Value #10 - Know No Limits.

When I look back on the accomplishments of the past 18 months, from our first live conference to the introduction of live broadcast webinars, I know we were successful because we believed it before we started. I now apply this type of thinking in everything, from going to graduate school to buying my first car. There are no limits to what I can do. In the words of our fearless leader, Brandon Osborn, If you can think it, you can do it.
