Better Hearing and Speech Month began in 1927, its goal to applaud the triumphs of individuals with communication disorders and shine a light on the professionals that assist them. Communication is an essential human need that many of us take for granted. It grants us the skills for friendship, self-expression, and makes everyday life easier. Speech and hearing professionals forge the path to a better life for those who are impacted through dedication, careful listening, patience, and compassion.
Speech and language disorders are very serious, they isolate sufferers from others and frustrate their efforts to learn and grow. Proper treatment from a qualified professional can eliminate or minimize its impact and drastically improve quality of life. More than 5 million children in the United States suffer a speech, language or hearing disorder, and parents are often uninformed and unsure where to turn if they suspect a problem. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) uses Better Hearing and Speech month to impress upon parents the issues involved with a communication disorder. It provides parents with information to help ensure that they do not seriously affect their children's ability to learn, socialize with others and to be successful in school.
HomeCEU is proud to support Better Speech and Hearing this month with a set of brand new live interactive webinars presented by prominent Speech-Language Pathology professionals, Denise L. Dougherty, MA, CCC-SLP, MFT, and Patricia Ourand, MS, CCC-SLP.
