As you probably know, taking online courses is a preferred method of meeting Kansas Physical Therapy Continuing Education requirements, before the December 31st deadline. In a few short months, you'll need to have either 40 contact hours (Physical Therapists) or 20 contact hours (Physical Therapist Assistants) under your belt. Online continuing education courses are convenient, quick, economical, and they just make sense.
But be careful! There is a sneaky rule set by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts regarding internet courses. It doesn't have a name, so let's call it the 10-hour-limit-per-course rule. For the most part, its self-explanatory but I'll dish the details and get you up to speed so that you can rest assured your hard work will count towards your physical therapy continuing education requirement.
The Kansas State Board states that for home study, correspondence, audio, video or internet courses, a maximum of 10 contact hours shall be given for each course. Translation: Take as many online courses as you'd like, but each individual course must be 10 hours or less. So, if you watch your limit, you can fulfill your ENTIRE physical therapy continuing education requirement through online courses.
Example for Kansas Physical Therapists: Take four courses, each worth 10 contact hours, to meet a 40 contact hour requirement.
Example for Kansas Physical Therapist Assistants: Take two courses, each worth 10 contact hours, to meet a 20 contact hour requirement.
