Q: What mandatory topics are required?
All OTs renewing their Florida license must complete 2 hours of Florida Laws and Rules and 2 hours of Preventing Medical Errors. (One hour of HIV/AIDS is only required for a licensee’s first renewal.)
Q: This is my first renewal cycle. What are my requirements?
OTs and OTAs licensed on or after 3/01/2022 through 2/28/2023 do not have to complete 26 hours of general continuing education. However, you must complete 3 CE hours, consisting of:
- 1 hour of HIV/AIDS course (one-time requirement for first renewal)
- 2 hours in Prevention of Medical Errors (must be a Florida OT Board approved course)
OTs and OTAs licensed on or after 3/01/2021 through 2/28/2022 must complete all 26 CE hours, including the HIV/AIDS 1-hour requirement (first renewal only). This 26-hour requirement also includes 2 hours of Preventing Medical Errors and 2 hours of Florida Laws and Rules.
Q: Can I take all my CE hours online?
OTs and OTAs may only complete 12 hours online. The Florida board requires OTs and OTAs to complete at least 14 of the 26 required hours in person or from interactive, real-time courses.

Q: Does the board grant extensions or exemptions?
The Florida Board of Occupational Therapy does not offer hardship extensions or exemptions. All OTs and OTAs must complete their CE hours no later than February 28.
