National Physical Therapy Month (NPTM) is celebrated every October to raise awareness about the benefits of physical therapy and to honor the professionals who help improve lives through movement and rehabilitation. This year, the theme focuses on "falls prevention." More than 1 in 4 Americans fall each year, and falling once doubles your chances of falling again.
Here are a few Fall Prevention Tips:
- Exercises like yoga or Tai Chi improve stability and balance, decreasing the likelihood of a fall.
- Resistance and impact training can improve bone mineral density, which will help minimize injury in case of a fall.
- PTs & PTAs can perform Falls Screenings to help patients assess their risks and create gameplans.
